What the key events mean
- NFP (Nonfarm Payrolls)
- First Friday of the month: new non-farm jobs. A strong print means a hot economy and possibly later rate cuts.
- CPI (consumer prices)
- The main inflation gauge. A hotter-than-expected CPI usually weighs on stocks, growth (tech) stocks most of all.
- FOMC (Fed decision)
- 8 times a year: the Federal Reserve rate decision and statement. Its tone and the Fed chair's press conference move the whole market.
- PPI (producer prices)
- Wholesale prices — an early warning for CPI. Usually released the same week as CPI.
- Retail Sales
- Consumer spending — about 70% of the US economy. A weak print fuels recession worries.
- Jobless Claims
- Every Thursday: new unemployment benefit filings. The fastest weekly read on the labour market.
How to use this calendar
Why economic events matter
Macro numbers move the whole market at once: a surprise CPI or NFP can shift the S&P 500 by 1–2% within minutes. On those days spreads widen, stops fill with slippage and technical signals are less reliable.
How to use it
Before the week starts, mark the "High" impact events. Not opening new positions at release time (often 17:30 or 18:30 Tashkent), trimming open positions or reviewing stops in advance is the simplest protection. What matters is not the number itself but its gap to the consensus.
Frequently asked questions
- When are US economic releases in Tashkent time?
- Most releases come out at 8:30 AM New York time (17:30 in Tashkent in summer, 18:30 in winter) or at 10:00 AM (19:00 summer, 20:00 winter). The Fed (FOMC) decision is at 2:00 PM ET — 23:00 or midnight in Tashkent. Times in the table are already converted to Tashkent, daylight saving included.
- How is the impact level decided?
- The source doesn't provide one — we classify events by name. "High": NFP, CPI, PPI, PCE, GDP, unemployment rate, retail sales, ISM, the Fed rate decision and minutes. "Medium": jobless claims, ADP, consumer confidence, housing, industrial production, PMI, Fed officials' speeches.
- What do the "Consensus" and "Actual" columns mean?
- "Consensus" is the analyst forecast, "Previous" is the prior period's value, "Actual" is the officially released number (filled once it's out). The surprise is what moves markets: CPI expected at 3.0% and printing 3.3% is a stronger signal than 3.3% on its own.
- Is the US market fully closed on a holiday?
- Yes, on full holidays NYSE and Nasdaq are closed — no regular session and no pre-market. On short days (e.g. the Friday after Thanksgiving) the regular session closes at 1:00 PM ET.
