Why companies in this sector pass or fail
The core income of banks, lenders and conventional insurers comes from interest (riba) or conventional insurance — they are excluded at the business screen, before any ratio is looked at. That is why halal stocks are very rare in this sector. The ones that pass are usually companies that do not lend at interest — for example financial data and ratings providers; each is explained on its own page.
This is a general observation, not a fatwa. Every company is screened individually — the result is on its own page, with the ratios. Methodology
