The US exchanges run on New York time (ET). Uzbekistan is always UTC+5 — we have no daylight saving time. The US, however, shifts its clocks twice a year. So seen from Tashkent, the market opens at 18:30 for part of the year and at 19:30 for the rest. Let's sort this out once.
Three sessions
A trading day has three parts (in ET):
- Pre-market — 04:00 – 09:30;
- regular session — 09:30 – 16:00;
- after-hours (post-market) — 16:00 – 20:00.
The regular session is the exchange's official trading time (NYSE schedule). Extended hours (pre and after) depend on your broker: some allow trading from 04:00, some start later, some don't offer it at all. Check with your broker.
In Tashkent time
During US daylight saving time (from the 2nd Sunday of March to the 1st Sunday of November):
- pre-market: 13:00 – 18:30;
- regular session: 18:30 – 01:00;
- after-hours: 01:00 – 05:00.
During US standard time (November to March) everything is one hour later:
- pre-market: 14:00 – 19:30;
- regular session: 19:30 – 02:00;
- after-hours: 02:00 – 06:00.
2026–2027 switch dates
- US daylight saving time ends on Sunday, 1 November 2026. So from Monday, 2 November the market opens at 19:30 and closes at 02:00 Tashkent time.
- The next daylight saving period starts on Sunday, 14 March 2027. From 15 March it's back to 18:30 – 01:00.
Dates per almanac.com (current US law: 2nd Sunday of March and 1st Sunday of November). If the US abolishes clock changes, this schedule will change.
Easy to remember: 18:30 in summer, 19:30 in winter. The switch happens on a weekend, so the first "new" open always falls on a Monday.
The day crosses midnight
The regular session ends after midnight in Tashkent. Two practical consequences:
- Friday's session ends at 01:00 (02:00 in winter) on Saturday in Tashkent. Monday's session starts on Monday evening — nothing happens on Sunday night.
- Dates in reports, charts and signal history are US dates. A trade at 00:30 on Tuesday in Tashkent is recorded under Monday in US terms.
Holidays and short days
US exchanges are closed on US holidays and close early, at 13:00 ET, on some holiday eves. The remaining ones in 2026 (NYSE, as of 3 October 2026):
- Thursday, 26 November (Thanksgiving) — closed;
- Friday, 27 November — short day, the regular session ends at 23:00 Tashkent time;
- Thursday, 24 December — short day, ends at 23:00 Tashkent time;
- Friday, 25 December (Christmas) — closed;
- Friday, 1 January 2027 — closed.
On short days after-hours also ends early (17:00 ET, i.e. 03:00 in Tashkent).
Which session to trust
Few people trade in extended hours, and prices "jump" easily. When earnings or major news come out, a pre-market move is real; without news it's often thin-market noise. We have measured this in our own data: Why most pre-market stops are false.
That's why Limitup treats the sessions differently:
- Signals are only searched for during the regular session — the strategies rely on volume, and pre/post volume is very sparse.
- Price alerts also work in pre-market and after-hours: they only look at price.
- The "Today's movers" section of the dashboard shows pre-market moves with a separate badge while the market is closed, and says plainly that this is not the live regular session.
- Our Telegram bot sends a morning brief every trading day an hour before the open — 08:30 ET (17:30 in Tashkent in summer, 18:30 in winter) — and warns you before a holiday that "the market is closed tomorrow". To get them, sign up and link Telegram.
Practical tips
- Set two reminders on your phone: 2 November ("market now opens at 19:30") and 15 March ("back to 18:30").
- Companies usually report earnings before the open or after the close. So the biggest moves may happen during the day (pre-market) or at night (after-hours) in Tashkent — wait for the regular-session price before acting.
- If you use a stop order, check which hours it is active in at your broker.
- If you open a position on a holiday eve, remember the market will be closed the next day.
