A small, low-profile value investment firm in Maryland founded by Gavin Abrams.
Life story
Abrams Bison Investments was founded in 2000 by Gavin Abrams, who signs the firm's 13F filings as managing member. Public sources say almost nothing about his childhood, family or education.
How they got started
Before starting the firm, Abrams worked as a research analyst at ESL Investments, the hedge fund founded by Eddie Lampert. Abrams Bison registered with the SEC as an investment adviser in January 2006 and has filed 13F reports since 2005. The firm keeps a low profile and does not publish investor letters.
Investment style
The firm describes itself as a value investor making long-term equity investments and risk-arbitrage bets (e.g. on merger spreads), looking for U.S. companies trading well below intrinsic value.
Today
The firm is still active in 2026 and continues to file 13F reports. We found no reliable public sources on its best or worst investments, so those sections are left empty.
What to learn from following the portfolio
- For firms with little public information, the 13F is almost the only window: positions held and added to across several quarters reveal conviction.
- Risk-arbitrage positions (stocks with a pending merger) may be short-term deals, not long-term conviction — don't read them as ordinary buys.
- 13F data lags up to 45 days and shows only long U.S. stocks. Check each position's halal status in the Portfolio tab.
